Jamie Michalak grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, in the same neighborhood where Dr. Seuss once lived. As a child, she spent her days reading, rollerskating, and writing articles about her neighbors for her own newspaper, “The Biltmore Street News.”
These days, she writes children’s books. A former children’s book editor, Jamie is the author of more than twenty-five books, including Joe and Sparky Get New Wheels, a Kirkus Best Book of the Year; Joe and Sparky, Superstars!, a Bankstreet Best Book of the Year; So You Want to Catch Bigfoot?; and the “Martha Speaks” PBS Kids! chapter book series (under the name Jamie White).
Her most recent book, Joe and Sparky Go to School, received a starred review from The Horn Book that describes the story as “perfect for the newly independent reader and makes a fine bridge from Amelia Bedelia to Ramona.” It was also named an Amazon Best Book of the Year and a Cybil’s Finalist.
In addition to writing children’s books, Jamie is co-founder of The Little Crooked Cottage, a new children’s book blog celebrating authors, illustrators, and their creations.
She lives in Barrington, Rhode Island with her husband and two young sons, who provide lots of inspiration for her stories.
